Notes from Community Hours

Posted by Kaye Kory at Jul 06, 2010 04:00 PM |

On Saturday, June 26 and Thursday, July 1, I invited School Board Members Sandy Evans and Patty Reed to join me at my Community Hours at the James Lee Center and the Woodrow Wilson Library.

On Saturday, several issues were raised by constituents who dropped in.  In one instance, a constituent wanted to know what opportunities there are for minority voices to be heard by the General Assembly.  I recommended that a group make an appointment for a time during my community hours and we can discuss specific ideas.  There were also questions raised regarding school construction funding and the legal forms of civic associations, homeowners associations and community associations.

On Thursday, Sandy Evans met with me and we discussed the impact of different pieces of legislation going into effect on July 1.  Constituents also raised the issue of High School credits and how Virginia is going to raise its college graduation rates.
